Herson (în ucraineană Херсон, română Cherson) este un oraș în sudul Ucrainei, port fluvio-maritim pe Nipru, reședință a regiunii cu același nume. Se află pe malul drept (vestic) al cursului inferior al fluviului Nipru la aproximativ 25 km de gura de vărsare a fluviului. Herson a fost numit după vechiul oraș grec Chersonesos din peninsula Crimeea (la vest de Sevastopol) și a fost întemeiat în 1778 de feldmareșalul G. A. Potemkin ca o fortăreață pentru a proteja țărmul Mării Negre cucerit de Rusia și a devenit prima bază navală și șantier naval rusesc de la Marea Neagră. În 1803 a devenit capitala Guberniei Herson. Orașul s-a dezvoltat constant în timpul secolului al XIX-lea, în mare măsură datorită transporturilor maritime și a construcțiilor navale, și a rămas un șantier naval important în secolul al XXI-lea. The Third Cemetery of Athens (Greek: Τρίτο Νεκροταφείο Αθηνών, Tríto Nekrotafeío Athinón) is a cemetery located in the Aspra Chomata district of Nikaia. It is located at the junction of Thebes and Petros Ralli avenues and its central entrance is on Kavkasou street. The area of the cemetery is part of the Municipality of Nikaia-Agios Ioannis Renti and administratively falls under the Municipality of Athens. It is the largest cemetery in the Balkans, with more than 27,000 burial monuments. It is also considered important because several famous Greeks are laid to rest there. In its northwestern part, at the height where the boundaries of the municipalities of Nikaia, Korydallos, Agia Varvara and Aigaleo, it also includes a Jewish cemetery, the second overall cemetery of the Jewish community in Athens. It represents an important part of the town’s cultural and historical heritage, preserving the memory of earlier generations who shaped the local community. The cemetery contains 86 graves, reflecting traditional burial practices of the late 19th and early 20th centuries. The last burial took place in 1947, after which the cemetery was no longer used for new interments. Over the years, natural aging, weather conditions, and the passage of time have caused significant wear to the grave markers. As a result, most of the inscriptions on the graves are no longer readable, and many individual identities have faded from historical record. Despite its small size, the cemetery holds considerable historical value. It offers insight into past community life, burial customs, and local traditions. The simple layout, modest gravestones, and quiet surroundings create a solemn and respectful atmosphere. Today, Bácsalmási Temető stands as a place of remembrance and reflection. Although many names have been lost, the site continues to honor those buried there and serves as a silent witness to the town’s history and the passage of time.
