Sárpatak - Új temető / New cemetery

📍 Glodeni, România

The „New cemetery" of the village is located on a hill in the North-Western part of the locality. Although it is relatively new, some burials here date back to the middle of the 1700's, in the burial complex of the Teleki de Szék family - dominated by a pyramid-shaped burial vault. Except for one gravestone, no readable stone remains from the old burial monument, but a few names buried here can be identified from archival sources.

The community of Shumen was also known for its early and strong commitment to Zionism. Varrezat e Rrmajit

Varrezat e Rrmajit

__________________________ Rrmajit Cemetery is a Catholic cemetery, unique in all Albania. The monumental graveyard boasts a number of medieval burial tombs, catacombs, and other original architectural monuments in more recent styles, such as Jugendstil, Neoclassicism, and so on. The graveyard is interesting also concerning the materials used to build these funerary monuments, which range from basalts, to Syrian granite, Carrara marbles, Murano glass from Venice, concrete and local stones, all embedded in refined and original designs. If there is any evidence of funerary art in Albania, you can definitely find it in the monuments of Rrmajit Cemetery in Shkodra. Unfortunately, some of the older monuments, and gravestones are missing – traded on the black market by thieves. But what's left is still worthwhile: this historic Catholic cemetery gives more than a glimpse into the history of the place. Many Albanian heroes are buried here. Rrmajit Cemetery is more than a graveyard: it is a historic testimony of the birth of a nation. Its monuments speak of freedom, hopes, and aspirations.

Bajna Cemetery

Bajna Cemetery

📍 Bajna, Ungaria

Numerous German soldiers had been buried in the Bajna palace gardens during the Second World War. After the Volksbund Kriegsgräberfürsorge received approval in 1989 to probe these graves, which are no longer recognizable above ground, and to transfer the dead to the community cemetery, 153 dead were recovered during the work carried out in 1990. In the community cemetery, 20 war deaths had already been buried in individual graves. Today metal crosses adorn the names and dates of the 173 German soldiers who now rest here, the military cemetery, which was inaugurated on July 26, 1992. An oak cross with a memorial is located in the central square of the complex. Bajna is located in the north of Hungary, 40 kilometers northwest of Budapest, near the Slovakian border. The military cemetery is located at the eastern entrance to the municipal cemetery. The path is signposted from the center of the village.
