Nicolae Constantin Paulescu

In memoriam

Medical Researcher. Nicolae Paulescu, a Romanian physiologist, performed medical research, which played a role in the discovery of insulin as a treatment of the debilitating disease of diabetes. In the 21st century, his pioneer research for a cure for diabetes gives him fame as well as the fact that he was overlooked for earlier recognition while he was alive in the early 20th century. He isolated the hormone which is secreted from the pancreas, naming it "pancreine." His "pacreine" was later called insulin. His discovery was much earlier Dr. Frederick Banting and a medical student, Charles Best , July of 1921 discovery. Banting and Best published a paper after their discovery of isolated insulin and mentioned Paulescu's research. After Banting and Dr. MacLeod received the 1923 Nobel Prize, Paulescu wrote the Nobel Prize committee about his earlier discovery, but his claim was rejected.
