In memoriam

Not until I started pouring through Bikacs records did I learn I share a birthday with my great grandmother. I'd have to think that my grandfather didn't know her birthday, which is why he never told me. He certainly talked about her, but he was only 18 when he left for the U.S., and just may not have been old enough to care about such things. He did think fondly of her, though, and even before I undertook genealogy research, he made sure I knew her name.
